Eden Azores Gastronomical Bucket List (Guest Post)

I will start off with a confession that will surely not surprise anyone who knows me even a little bit: I love to eat. I do own a significant number of cookbooks, but my real passion is not cooking, but rather tasting and experiencing culinary treats.

Upon my travels I prefer restaurants where the locals go - I frequently use the recommendations from Tripadvisor (the app) and Google (integrated in Google maps). From the menu, I prefer choosing the “special” of the restaurant, and traditional / typical dishes of the country, or the region. When in doubt, I ask the server what her favourite dish is from the menu.

Luckily, I do not suffer from any food allergies or intolerances (at least not that I know of) so the world is my oyster and I can pretty much eat whatever I want (shellfish included). So upon preparing for my journey to the Azores to visit my friend Rita - Eden Azores - who proved to be the most amazing tour guide I compiled a so-called Gastronomical Bucket List. Meaning: all the things I knew I wanted to try during my 6 day long stay on Sao Miguel island.

BEST DAY IN THE PARADISE WITH AZOREAN MAY DAY CELEBRATION AND WITH A WONDERFUL TOUR (AZOREAN TOUR GUIDE 1. PART)

In this post I would like to tell you about how May Day (International Workers’ Day) is celebrated on the Azores, and also tell you about one of my best days ever on the island - which also included hiking on a beautiful trail. You might be thinking now: well-well, we are happy that you had a good time, but why is this post worthy, and what is there in it for us?

I would like you to consider this post as a cultural introduction into one of the many traditions of the Azores, and as a great event recommendation for May Day for everyone who is visiting in the future at this time of the year.

In the morning I thought I will only attend a simple May Day celebration, but thanks to lucky turn of events I found a beautiful hiking trail, too. So this post is an event and hiking trail recommendation.

EASTER ON THE AZORES - THROUGH OUR OWN EYES, THE CAKES WE TRIED, THE PROCESSIONS WE ATTENDED

FELIZ PÁSCOA - KELLEMES HÚSVÉTI ÜNNEPEKET - HAPPY EASTER - BUONA PASQUA - VESELÉ VELIKONOCE

Easter (in Portuguese: Pascoa) is one of the most important religious feast and holiday of the year both in Hungary and in Portugal, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. In Hungary, there are special church services and masses held all over the country, and the festivities usually end with strolling processions. The celebrations on the Azores are similar, the main exception being that on the Azores the procession is not limited to one single day - Easter Sunday - but is held on a different weekends in several cities.

About me
Hello, I am Rita. Bioengineer, marketing manager, and so much more. My first trip to the Azores has been so wonderful I have decided to move here. Since I have found very little information about the Azores in Hungarian, I have decided to start a blog collecting hints and providing advice to help fellow travelers. My aim is to motivate more people to go on vacation to the Azores, to help and assist fellow travelers, and finally through my adventures provide more information about this beautiful place. Please take a look around, and let me know if you have a question. I will do my utmost to provide an answer.

Who is the blog for?
This website is dedicated to my family and friends - to reassure them that I am doing well and enjoying my new life - and of course to everyone who wants to know more about the Azores, especially about the islands Sao Miguel and Furnas. This website might also be the starting point to plan a vacation or a wedding at the Azores. With my posts and the information contained within I would like to help every traveller to have the time of their lives when visiting the Azores. For foodies who would like to eat like a local or want to find the best restaurants on the isles, and also for people with food intolerance or allergies I recommend the posts in the section "BIO Girl in the Azores".
