EASTER ON THE AZORES - THROUGH OUR OWN EYES, THE CAKES WE TRIED, THE PROCESSIONS WE ATTENDED

FELIZ PÁSCOA - KELLEMES HÚSVÉTI ÜNNEPEKET - HAPPY EASTER - BUONA PASQUA - VESELÉ VELIKONOCE

Easter (in Portuguese: Pascoa) is one of the most important religious feast and holiday of the year both in Hungary and in Portugal, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. In Hungary, there are special church services and masses held all over the country, and the festivities usually end with strolling processions. The celebrations on the Azores are similar, the main exception being that on the Azores the procession is not limited to one single day - Easter Sunday - but is held on a different weekends in several cities.

WINE IN AZORES – EXPERIENCES AND RESULTS FROM THE AZOREAN WINE FESTIVAL - PREPARATIONS FOR WINE IN AZORES 2018

This is the follow-up to one of my favorite posts ever, which might be of relevance to those planning to travel to the Azores or Portugal in 2018. The original post is about my experiences at the Wine in Azores festival in October 2017. This event has been a truly special experience, those 3 days with lovely people, divine wine, and other gastronomic treats - and all this on Sao Miguel island.

On the first day of the event I decided to make a little contest within the small group of Hungarian friends. Everyone in the group had to choose his or her favourite wine and favourite wine label. My goal is to help my readers and fellow travellers with a list of wines and wineries worth trying and visiting when in Portugal or in the Azores. Those doing a round-trip in Portugal, or doing city breaks in Lisbon or Porto have now a list of wonderful wine suggestions at their disposal. For those traveling to the Azores the following information might even inspire a wine-trip on Sao Miguel, or even trying the exceptional volcanic wines of Pico.

Once the list of "winners" was complete, I contacted these favourite wineries and asked them to answer a few questions about their wineries and wines. You can read these interviews below.

HOW TO GET TO THE AZORES? WHICH AIRLINE TO CHOOSE? IS IT WORTH TO MAKE A STOPOVER? HOW DID I PREPARE FOR MY MOVE TO THE AZORES?

MY TRAVEL EXPERIENCE WHEN MOVING TO THE AZORES

When I moved to the Azores I had quite a few suitcases with me (I was travelling with my parents, because I wanted to show them my new home). At this stage the choices to travel from Budapest to Ponta Delgada were somewhat limited. So I ended up opting for a combination of Wizz Air & TAP Portugal airlines. At Wizz Air I went for the Wizz Plus, at TAP Portugal the Business Class option. Sadly, when I booked our tickets there was no direct TAP Portugal flight between Budapest and Lisbon - but there is one since the summer of 2017 which makes planning and organizing trips to the Azores so much easier, and also more comfortable.

About me
Hello, I am Rita. Bioengineer, marketing manager, and so much more. My first trip to the Azores has been so wonderful I have decided to move here. Since I have found very little information about the Azores in Hungarian, I have decided to start a blog collecting hints and providing advice to help fellow travelers. My aim is to motivate more people to go on vacation to the Azores, to help and assist fellow travelers, and finally through my adventures provide more information about this beautiful place. Please take a look around, and let me know if you have a question. I will do my utmost to provide an answer.

Who is the blog for?
This website is dedicated to my family and friends - to reassure them that I am doing well and enjoying my new life - and of course to everyone who wants to know more about the Azores, especially about the islands Sao Miguel and Furnas. This website might also be the starting point to plan a vacation or a wedding at the Azores. With my posts and the information contained within I would like to help every traveller to have the time of their lives when visiting the Azores. For foodies who would like to eat like a local or want to find the best restaurants on the isles, and also for people with food intolerance or allergies I recommend the posts in the section "BIO Girl in the Azores".
