Two in One - How to effortlessly enhance a trip to the Azores with a tour of Lisbon

I would like to recommend a great way to complement your trip to the Azores with no extra travel.

Every time I was flying to the Azores I had a stopover in Lisbon. I did not want to waste my time waiting at the airport, so I always decided to have a look around in the city. So it was just me and my guide book, trying to make the most of my stay in this wonderful city - but somehow it did not feel right. Even though I have seen a lot, I did not have the full picture of Lisbon, and how this city truly is. I have to admit I felt a little disappointed, especially after doing my homework and reading so many good things about the capital of Portugal. However, the last time my friend Virag and myself were in Lisbon, another friend of mine, Krisztina - who is a tour guide and has been living in Lisbon for 9 years - took us for a 3.5 hours long sightseeing tour.

TRUE STORY- WHY I DECIDED TO MOVE TO THE AZORES EXACTLY 1 YEAR AGO ON THIS DAY?

So many of you asked about how did I ended up moving to the Azores? How does one come to the decision to move there, at all? Why the Azores? Why Sao Miguel, of all islands? These are indeed a lot of good questions. Therefore, on the 1 year anniversary of me making this decision, I have decided to share a few details with you about the move.

I would not like to start this story with Adam and Eve - though it would fit the Eden of the blog's title - but I need to go back in time a little when I start telling the story behind my decision.

Please read on to find out more ...

DELICACY COOKED IN AZOREAN VOLCANOES: “VOLCANO CORN” FROM FURNAS AND “VOLCANO SOUP” OR COZIDO

Furnas is the most beloved tourist destination on the island. Furnas is located approximately 45 minutes from Ponta Delgada. Furnas has beautiful flora and fauna, and a wonderful landscape. And last but not least it is the home of the most delicious volcano-made food.

I have read lots of reviews of the dish named Cozido, the signature dish of Furnas. And I am looking at this exceptional dish from another perspective. It truly is a delicacy everyone has to try. For those with food intolerances I have good news: Cozido is both gluten- and lactose-free. However, I am afraid it will disappoint all vegetarians: it is a dish which contains (lots of delicious) meat.

This post is about Cozido. Read on if you'd like to find out more about this fantastic dish.

Grocery shopping on Sao Miguel & best stores for people with food allergies

A lot of you asked me about where to go grocery shopping on a small island like Sao Miguel, and what are the options for those with food allergies. So I have collected (almost every) grocery store on the island with an emphasis on those where gluten-free, lactose-free, "all-free" products are also available. The post also contains my personal experiences and opinions of these grocery store chains. I would appreciate your feedback on Facebook if you find this useful.

About me
Hello, I am Rita. Bioengineer, marketing manager, and so much more. My first trip to the Azores has been so wonderful I have decided to move here. Since I have found very little information about the Azores in Hungarian, I have decided to start a blog collecting hints and providing advice to help fellow travelers. My aim is to motivate more people to go on vacation to the Azores, to help and assist fellow travelers, and finally through my adventures provide more information about this beautiful place. Please take a look around, and let me know if you have a question. I will do my utmost to provide an answer.

Who is the blog for?
This website is dedicated to my family and friends - to reassure them that I am doing well and enjoying my new life - and of course to everyone who wants to know more about the Azores, especially about the islands Sao Miguel and Furnas. This website might also be the starting point to plan a vacation or a wedding at the Azores. With my posts and the information contained within I would like to help every traveller to have the time of their lives when visiting the Azores. For foodies who would like to eat like a local or want to find the best restaurants on the isles, and also for people with food intolerance or allergies I recommend the posts in the section "BIO Girl in the Azores".
